Deloitte University Green Goldfish

As organizations adapt to the changing macro environment, their internal environment must change as well. Hackett has seen some examples of this done well in offices including Deloitte University’s in Plano, Texas. As Hackett put it:

“Learning represents the strategy of the company. Deloitte celebrates its expertise across the university facility from the “story wall” in the lobby to the “associate finder” that enables anyone to find anyone else in the massive facility. In many ways, the whole university is one large “we” space.

Today’s Lagniappe (a little something extra thrown in for good measure) – Here is a video and some stats about Deloitte U:

Employees: 500, including about 50 Deloitte employees and about 450 employees of Benchmark Hospitality, which operates the center

Architectural style: Texas Hill Country ranch with more modern features inside

Special features: A 20,000-square-foot ballroom, an 800-room hotel and a 176-seat amphitheater

Education: 35 high-tech classrooms, including four tele-rooms that link to other Deloitte sites nationwide and in India, and 36 smaller team rooms

Technology: A 20-foot-long interactive media wall posts company information and announcements, such as alerts for the April 3 tornadoes. Classrooms have integrated audio-visual conferencing. The amphitheater provides language translation abilities.

Food: The Market serves three meals a day. Bistro 375 offers coffee and snacks (wine at night). Four City Places in the hotel offer snacks and drinks. The Barn serves food and drinks in the evenings.

Entertainment: The amphitheater often shows movies at night. The Barn has a pool table; Wii, Xbox and other games; and an outdoor fire pit.

Hotel: Feedback from test rooms resulted in all rooms being the same size, reading lights over beds, electric outlets near beds and no bathtubs.

Green features: The campus construction received LEED gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Deloitte recycles throughout campus, provides preferred parking for hybrid vehicles and collects rainwater runoff and reuses it for landscape irrigation.

Fitness: It has a 12,000-square-foot gym, which provides personal training and workout clothes, athletic fields and a two-mile running-walking trail. Forty bicycles are available for guests to use.

Public art: More than 300 works of art created by Deloitte staff are displayed throughout the campus and even on hotel room key cards.
