Making Information Work – A Picture’s Worth A Thousand Words!

Do you ever feel that in today’s fast moving business world, you’re constantly bombarded with information and sometimes it’s difficult to take it all in? Well your customers and your staff are probably thinking that too!

Have you ever shared information that’s important and relevant to those that you are sharing it with, but somehow it doesn’t seem to get through? The data is there, but it’s just not hitting the spot!

Lots of us prefer to visualise things – we like to see things in ‘pictures’ (If you’re anything like me, I’m sure that this was influenced by the eagre anticiaption each week of the Blue Peter Appeal ‘Totaliser’ when I was a kid!)

Well, I came across Word It Out recently and it’s a very simple online tool to collect, collate and visualise information in one place. The more a word or phrase is used, the bigger it appears in the image – the result can be quite impactive!

Last week I asked my 3D Thoughts listeners to let me know what they thought to our weekly 3 minute audios in just 3 words and this is what they thought……

Word It 3D

First of all, we’re very pleased about what people said, but secondly, we realised the power of ‘visualising’ the feedback!

In one simple image we’ve got a great summary of what people think – and with any luck, that might give a few others a prompt to have a look at what they’re missing!

So, how could you use it in your business?

Well, there are lots of options, but here are just some ideas…

  • Ask your customers to sum you up in just a few words!
  • Ask your people to describe what it’s like to work for you!
  • Ask your people to sum up the ‘culture’ of your business!
  • Ask your team to sum up you as a leader / team member!

Obviously, the list of uses is endless…. so, why not give it a go – publish the results, and then use them to either promote what you do, reinforce key messages, and identify the key areas to improve on!

Go on, picture it!
