Social Media – It’s Adult Material!

comments 0 comments  |  1286 reads

We all know that social media is growing massively, but it’s not your customers getting involved is it?  Facebook’s for kids isn’t it? Twitter is for teenagers and LinkedIn for aspiring job seekers! That’s right isn’t it? Your customers dabble, but don’t really get that involved in it do they?  The lastest ’stats’ written in black and white might just get you to take another look!

According to research from XposureFacebook now gives a reach of just over 30 million unique users for the UK – That means the proportion of the UK total population registered with the site is fast approaching 50%!

And it’s not just kids raving about DJ Dizzy Jazzy And the Boyz! Apparently 25-34 year olds are now the largest age group on Facebook as we enter 2012, with under 17s accounting for only 5% of the user base. That means that 95% are adults!

What’s even more significant from a customer point of view is that a massive 42% of users claim to be in the £30k-£49,999 income bracket – and the second most highly represented bracket is £50k plus, at 22%!

Twitter has shown explosive growth this year, with the number of reported users more than doubling from 12 million to 26 million and again the age profile is dominated by the 25-44 age group, accounting for over 60% of users.

LinkedIn also continues to grow, and now looks to reach around 10% of the UK population.

So, maybe it’s worth having another look – what are your customers doing when it comes to Social Media? How do you know? How can you find out?
