Challenges and Opportunities of Social Media in Business

Here is a link to Jay Deragon’s blog where he posts some interesting stats on the impediments to business adoption of social media. It also has a YouTube video of Cisco Systems CEO, John Chambers giving his take on the impact of collaboration on business and world issues.

Chambers and Cisco, of course, have a stake in the adoption of online tools and technology so he is not completely objective. Who is? Listen to Chambers, he is talking about businesses with less interactional friction, businesses that are more nimble and able to seize new opportunities.

Some act like the current recession will one day end and business will return to normal. I think not. As the type of collaboration that Chambers takes hold, companies will emerge who have strategic advantage over their traditional competitors.

My observation, this is happening. Executives are looking for people to help them understand the new potential, the new possibilities. And, there are companies that are aggressively taking action.
